I just had my second child 3 months ago. Some advice: bring as little as possiable. Someone will have to make serveral trips out to the car to bring things things back home with you while you get wheeled out holding the baby. You can bring the nightgowns if you want, but they wull proubly get riuned. The hospital does give you as many gowns as you need as you shower and such. The only bra i wore wore was there and leaving. socks and slippers are a must!!! you will need your toillettreies because they give you nothing but try to bring travel size so you dont have to bring it all home with you. Only bring one pillow if you can, they do give you 1 or 2 anyways. definitly bring pads, they give you a bunch of these huge ones with these netted underwear things to hold them in place (dont throw away they wont give you more) but by the end you will run out of pads, espeacally if you need to stay an extra day. for the baby: pack his diaper bag with: i receiveing blkt, i heavey blkt, 2 outfits to choose from for the picture and maybe a pair of socks. they will give you so many diapers and wipes that you will need space in that bag to bring then home…also they gove you instant use bottles with one time use nipples, as they stock up ur babys bed, put them into ur diaper bag so they keep refilling it, THESE WILL SAVE YOU FOR THE FIRST WEEK OR SO, they are so nice to have. do the same with the diaper if you can. bring the baby book to fill out while you are there…the nursery will do the footprints in it for you. i garentee you wont need to bring diapers, bibs or anything else i didnt mention. do make sure to just bring a small wallett with ID, insureance card, small amount of cash, your while purse will just get in the way. you will also have gifts, ballons, ect to bring home. the hospital room you stay in after labor is small, try to bring as little as possiable with out forgetting anything!!! also bring chapstick for labor and maybe a snack for ur coach. babys r us has a great list of exactly what to bring. when i had my first child they wouldnt let me take their blkt home so my fiancee had to go buy one b/c it was cold out….so def bring those!! YOU CANT BRING THE BABY HOME WITH OUT A CARSEAT THAT IS ALREADY PROPERLY INSTALLED, THE NURSE WHO PUSHES YOU OUT WILL CHECK!!!!

There are a lot of resources over the internet which give numerous baby shower gift ideas, but still, I have come across scores of people who have been grappling to get that perfect new born baby gift. The reason for such confusion is that infants do not really have a judgment of their own, and something which might be heaven to one toddler, might not be accepted by another. Infants are too picky and therefore, people are in a constant fix over getting a gift for them. Things become all the more difficult when you want to provide the baby with a personalized baby gift.

Personalization requires creativity and money, and if you are not particularly artistic, be prepared to shell out a lot more than anticipated. Most personalized gifts bear either the photographs of the baby or the baby’s name and other similar details. How you get these details engraved and imprinted on the gift would depend upon your creativity and how much you are willing to spend for the sake of personalization.

If you want to maintain a low budget, while providing uniqueness to the gift, you best bet would be going for candles. Wax candles are beautiful and mesmerizing, and by playing around with wax in various ways, you can add personal tones and textures to the candles, besides giving them a desired shape. You can get the name and birth details engraved inside the candle in wax of contrasting colors, so that the details are seen distinctly. Using the merging of a different color of was with the original color of the candle to get your message imprinted can cost you a fortune, and you are better off if you rather get the details painted or ‘written’ on the candle, or the candle stand.

Another economical option is to personalize chocolates, by getting the chocolate wrappers printed with details of the baby. You might have to contact the chocolate manufacturing company in order to do so. You can also get the name of the baby imprinted on the chocolate bar itself, which obviously would cost a lot more than getting it printed on the wrapper. You will have to get a special order placed for such kind of personalization, and every chocolate manufacturing company doesn’t provide such options. You might want to search the internet for more details on which companies offer such customization on their chocolates and other baby-edible products.

Curtains and bed sheets containing some of the baby’s favorite cartoon characters or animals are good gifting options. You can directly approach a bed sheet or curtain manufacturer and place your order. This would be an easy thing to do, and generally all bed-sheet manufacturers provide such customization on their products. Pillow covers and soft toys of a famous cartoon character could be coupled with a baby bed-sheet containing cartoons of the same character and gifted to the baby. All these things can be combined to form a baby gift basket focused on the cartoon character as its theme. In case of girls, famous companies like Barbie and Disney provide such customization options on their websites.

If you have the space for it I would reccomend a crib rather than a play yard since the baby will grow out of the play yard faster. Skip buying a bassinet or cradle…baby will outgrow those REALLY fast.

If you have a dresser already then you can get a changing pad to put on top of it and use that for a changing table. Also I know lots of moms who didn’t ever use a changing table at all!

I would reccomend a mobile for the baby (get one that has batteries and doesn’t need winding) but also remember that for the first two months they can’t really see it that well so its more for the music

Skip special “tummy time” toys or mats….we never used ours. DO get a “playgym” mat — our son liked to look at all the toys on his from the time he was an infant and played with it all the time until around 4-5 months old. It was a lifesaver.

If you’re limited on money & space you could probably chose a bouncy seat OR a swing instead of buying both.

I would buy at least five bottles. That way you won’t have to be washing them so much throughout the day!

A baby tub takes up space and you dont really need them….lots of people use the sink and it works just fine! Just buy one of those yellow foam things (about $4) to put in the sink to make it easier.

A wipe warmer isn’t a MUST but it does make middle of the night diaper changes easier and less jarring for baby. Also I would reccomend a good diaper pail….we have the First Years Clean Air and it is WONDERFUL. We bought the diaper champ first but this keeps in smells MUCH better.

A bottle warmer is nice but you can get by without it if you have to.

You may want to check at a used childrens clothing/gear store like Once Upon a Child if there is one in your area. You can get some good deals on cribs, bouncers and strollers. Craigslist is also a great place to check for that kind of stuff!
