Is it ok to feed a baby laying flat on the bed?

My mother in law insists that was how she raised her 3 kids. But is it ok to lay a baby in bed and feed her? I don’t feel comfortable seeing how she feed my baby but she said it is fine.

NO. In any breastfeeding position, the baby’s head should always be cradled in a slight upright position – even just a bit for positioning as well as for comfort. A bottle fed baby should be fed in an upright sitting or slight reclined position to ensure proper feeding technique. You want to make sure your baby is able to swallow well and formula isn’t pooling in the back of the throat which could cause choking. Coughing, choking, or gagging will occur if your child is laid flat on the bed, which can cause your little one to aspirate (which can even lead to pneumonia). And please do not ever prop a bottle!! The most important thing to remember is you are the mom and get to make the decisions on how to raise and feed your child – stick to your guns! Good luck.
