What baby items are must haves for a new baby?
I’m talking about items other then the obvious diapers, onesies, bibs, socks, blankets, sheets, car seat…ect.
I’m a law student so I am on a very small budget.
Play yard vs. Crib
Changing table?? What is cheeper that I could use for storage?
Toys? what are must haves? mobile, tummy time, crib toys? music players?
bouncers, swings…must haves?
feeding…how many bottles? what kind of cleaning supplies….can you recommend a good pump…I will be gone 6-8 hrs very day.
baby tub?
wipe warmer?
bottle warmer?
What about one of those zip up body blanket things?
If you have the space for it I would reccomend a crib rather than a play yard since the baby will grow out of the play yard faster. Skip buying a bassinet or cradle…baby will outgrow those REALLY fast.
If you have a dresser already then you can get a changing pad to put on top of it and use that for a changing table. Also I know lots of moms who didn’t ever use a changing table at all!
I would reccomend a mobile for the baby (get one that has batteries and doesn’t need winding) but also remember that for the first two months they can’t really see it that well so its more for the music
Skip special “tummy time” toys or mats….we never used ours. DO get a “playgym” mat — our son liked to look at all the toys on his from the time he was an infant and played with it all the time until around 4-5 months old. It was a lifesaver.
If you’re limited on money & space you could probably chose a bouncy seat OR a swing instead of buying both.
I would buy at least five bottles. That way you won’t have to be washing them so much throughout the day!
A baby tub takes up space and you dont really need them….lots of people use the sink and it works just fine! Just buy one of those yellow foam things (about $4) to put in the sink to make it easier.
A wipe warmer isn’t a MUST but it does make middle of the night diaper changes easier and less jarring for baby. Also I would reccomend a good diaper pail….we have the First Years Clean Air and it is WONDERFUL. We bought the diaper champ first but this keeps in smells MUCH better.
A bottle warmer is nice but you can get by without it if you have to.
You may want to check at a used childrens clothing/gear store like Once Upon a Child if there is one in your area. You can get some good deals on cribs, bouncers and strollers. Craigslist is also a great place to check for that kind of stuff!
Good luck! I hope this was helpful!
