Baby Bed
I’m 33 weeks pregnant and am not planning on having my baby sleep in with us as I’m afraid I might squash the baby, the baby might fall out of the bed or the baby might get into bad habits and not want to sleep in a bed of it’s own. I hardly ever put my baby in bed with me. Two reasons – first my husband was a wild sleeper. I was not afraid of myself rolling over on him, but my husband. Second – I would never get a good night sleep like that, I was always worried about my husband rolling over on the baby so I slept with one eye open almost. This is what I learned to do and it worked well with both of my boys. When they woke up for their feeding, I would change the diaper first, then do the feeding. Normally by the time they were done feeding, they were almost back to sleep. My little ones ate fast and the whole process took less that 20 minutes. A couple things I did do is I had the porta crib in the room with me for about 2 months then moved to his own room. Also I would put an night gown or pajama top in the crib with him. Not to where it would interfere with him or make him possibly smother himself, but just maybe lay him on top of the night gown like it was a blanket. It has your scent on it and the baby thinks it is you so they will go to sleep and stay asleep longer. Worked will with both of my boys. |

Bear Security Baby Bedding
My friend isn’t a member of Y!A and she asked me to ask a question on her behalf! She is currently 6 months pregnant and has a 2.5 year old. By the time her new baby is born she wants to ‘wean’ her daughter from a few things. My friend says she realises she has left it all too late, but wants to know where to start in this weaning, and what to expect realistically! Thanks! First off, she needs to understand that she can’t possibly rock this little one’s world by taking every measure of security away from her all at once and then introduce a little one into her life. It just isn’t fair. I would take the bottle, potty and bed and leave the binky and snuggly alone right now. In fact, I was your friend just over 2 yrs ago. I was pregnant with my 2nd when my daughter was 2.5. I bled with my son and had to leave for the hospital. As I packed a bag for my daughter to go across the street to my friend’s home, I forgot about the 4 ounce night time bottle. i just packed sippy cups for her, because it was still daytime and out of habit. She ended up having to sleep there overnight for the first time in her life away from us. she did fine. We figured something good should come of that night so we got rid of the bottles. She asked one night after that and we told her that good fairies had taken them away because she didn’t need them anymore. she was fine. In terms of potty training, I got on it and she was pee pee trained through the night. made her go right before she went up to bed (crib) and checked on her once through the night. Put a waterproof liner under her sheets. she caught on quickly but refused to train for poop. As a preschool teacher, i have trained countless children over the years. But, she just refused. When her brother was born, we began looking fro preschools for her. She was still in pullups due to the bms. She fell in love with this one preschool. the lady told her she couldn’t go there with pullups. and that was it. what I had battled with for over a year with her was solved by some stranger telling her they wouldn’t take kids with pullups. We left the school and went to get more underwear and she never looked back. One or 2 accidents and that was it. She was almost 3.5. My daughter was 3 yrs 3 months when her baby brother was born in Oct. We went out with her shopping for a new bedroom set to be delivered in August. She seemed to gravitate towards full beds instead of twins. We decided to go for the full asit would make life easier for us if she got sick or had bad dreams at night. she never looked back or felt jealous of her crib going to her brother since she loved her big girl bed so much. we changed up the routine a bit and would read a book in bed with her and then stay and snuggle for two songs. She did great. Most orthodontists will tell you the binky won’t harm their teeth until 4 yrs of age or older. I prepared my daughter for months that once her birthday came, we would be putting the binky away. she didn’t have a lovey at this point. her binky had always been her lovey. when her birthday came, we took a picture of her binky and glued it to the outside of a pretty box. Put a soft piece of material inside the box and then put the binky on its blanket. Wrapped the box up with a pretty ribbon. then I gave her my childhood teddy bear to take its place. i told her Howie would help her relax and would be her friend through the night. Told her how he did an excellent job of keeping bad dreams away. then we put the box with the binky in her nightstand next to her. She slept just fine. She still sleeps with Howie and she is 5.5. She takes him in the car, but doesn’t take him out of it except to relatives homes if we are staying for the day. Heck, I took Howie with me to college, so I don’t know why you need to take her snuggly away, anyhow, LOL! Hope I have helped. Let me know if she has any other questions. My son is almost 2.5 now, so I have a couple of years ahead of her on all the things she is wondering about. |

Nursery Baby
I have a co-workers who’s sister had a baby about six months ago. As a gift I would like to make a Nursery Rhyme book but nor exactly sure how to execute this idea. Should I just use a binder, decorate the pages, then use page protectors for the pages? Anybody with any help at all would be very much appreciated as this is my first time attempting to make anything like this. I already have a list of nursery rhymes I’m going to use but any suggestions are welcome! Fabric books are the most ideal for babys this age as they’re soft and harder to rip/break. If you’re any good at stitching, it might be a good idea to buy some felt and have a go with that. You could then write the rhymes on the pages and maybe embroider/applique the titles or some shapes/pictures. If you do decide to do this, though, you’ll hae to make sure everything is stitched securely enough and that there are no loose parts or long pieces of thread. If you’re not keen on that idea, your idea sounds great. try to use card or something a bit thicker than normal paper because once the baby gets older, he/she will then be able to try and turn the pages. The thinner the pages are, the harder this would be. Also, make sure that the corners of the pages are rounded off so that they aren’t sharp and again, make sure that everything is very securely attatched. Good luck with you little project – it’s a really clever and original idea to make a book, I hope it works well |

Crib Bed
She has been sleeping in her playpen for months, she weights 22 Ibs now and needs to move on. What should I get her? A crib, a toddler bed or a twin size bed? I don’t want to have to spend money buying different beds at different stages of her life!! Are there any ‘one size fits all’ bed/solution? I bought my baby a simplicity crib 4 in 1 from walmart for about 2 hundred dollars, it has a built on changing table and dresser |
